Day Seven

Genesis 16:1-18:15, Matthew 6:1-24, Psalm 7:1-17, Proverbs 2:1-5

Maggie:
Matthew - "Your Father knows what you need before you ask him" This line has guided me through many prayers. I love these chapters of the Gospel. It is stating in black and white how we should live our lives.

Genesis 13:5-15:21, Matthew 5:27-48, Psalm 6:1-10, Proverbs 1:29-33

Day Five

Genesis 11:1-13:4, Matthew 5:1-26, Psalm 5:1-12, Proverbs 1:24-28

Maggie:
Matthew: I get chills everytime I read or hear the Beatitudes. They always make me think about myself and if I'm living up to these standards.

Day Four

Genesis 8:1-10:32, Matthew 4:12-25, Psalm 4:1-8, Proverbs 1:20-23

Maggie:
Genesis: Have you ever read or watched the documentary by Bruce Feiler called "Walking the Bible"? He actually goes to Ararat (8:4) and meets the people who live there. It is very interesting. I think I will always see rainbows differently after reading about God's Covenant with Noah.

Day three

Genesis 5:1-7:24, Matthew 3:7-4:11, Psalm 3:1-8, Proverbs 1:10-19

Maggie:
Matthew: I love the analogies that John the Baptist uses in vs.10 and 12. When I read about the temptation of Jesus, I think of how clever Satan was/is. He used every angle to tempt Jesus. And even though Jesus was suffering, he did not give a second thought at doing what Satan was asking. Wow! What an example to live by.

Psalm: "But you, Lord, are a shield around be; my glory, you keep my head high." (vs. 4) This one's going on the fridge.

Day two

Genesis 3:1-4:26, Matthew 2:13-3:6, Psalm 2:1-12, Proverbs 1:7-9

Maggie:
Genesis: Everytime I read about the serpent tempting Eve and tricking her into eating the forbidden fruit I think about how many times the "serpent" tempts me and how many times I give in to those temptations.

Psalm: "Happy are all who take refuge in God!" That line in vs. 11 is going on my fridge.

Day one

Genesis 1:1-2:25, Matthew 1:1-2:12, Psalm 1:1-6, Proverbs 1:1-6

Laura:
Matthew: I think it is cool that they have the Genealogy of Jesus here. I love that we can look in the Old Testament and read about all these different people.
Did you know that the three wise men did not come to Jesus at the time of His birth? But it was maybe it might have been when Jesus was two years old. And really we don't know the number of men that made up the Magi.

Psalm: I love vs 2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on His law he mediates day and night. We need to be like this. We need to delight in reading and understanding God's Words. I have found at times when I'm constantly is His Word I have grown into a more deeper understand who God really is. I pray for us as we are reading His Word that we would grow closer to Him.

Maggie:
Genesis: Whenever I read the first story of creation, I always like to try visualizing it in detail. What did the earth look like when it was a formless wasteland, how did the first creatures act, etc.

Matthhew: I agree with you, Laura, that I really like seeing the Genealogy of Jesus. Especially now because of a book I'm reading. I am currently at the part in the book where it talks about the lives of the people of the old testiment, and how one generation shaped the next.

Bible in a year

Maggie and I have decided to commit to reading the Bible in a year.

We will use this blog to make comments or ask questions about what we have read for that day.
